Inland Fisheries Ireland is the state agency responsible for the protection, management and conservation of Ireland’s inland fisheries and sea angling resources.
The Senior Research Officer – Hydromorphology and Fisheries, will conduct cutting-edge applied research in an area of hydromorphology that will contribute to the formulation and implementation of appropriate policies, strategies and initiatives for the IFI Board. Possible research areas might include modelling and mitigating the impacts of climate change and river modification on fish habitats and migration.
Main duties for this role will include:
- Having a vision for the development of hydromorphology/river basin research in IFI R&D, and deliver accordingly.
- Leading, directing and managing the development of hydromorphology expertise and research profile within the fisheries research team
- Liaising with IFI Board management and other relevant organisations including universities, Government Departments, Local Authorities, research institutes, private industry and international organisations to further the fisheries research agenda of the Board
- Publication of scientific and management papers
To qualify for this role you will possess a primary degree in a fisheries related area, with appropriate post-graduate experience (or equivalent experience). A postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in the area of fluvial geomorphology is also desirable. Candidates should also have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in hydromorphology research and development, ideally relevant to fisheries management and conservation.

Tenure: This role is offered on a permanent basis. Salary: Senior Research Officer scale (1.10.18): € 55,615 to €85,607 including 2 LSI’s
